Question by surferchick4ever2009: How can I ween myself from my sugar addiction?
I think I’m addicted to sugar. I see a cookie, chocolate, or cake and I just have to have it even if I’m not hungry. I don’t know what my triggers are but I will eat myself sick with sweets. I want to break this addiction but I don’t know how. I live in a house with 6 other people who really don’t understand and continue to buy and make sweet stuff. I don’t know what to do. I’m really at a loss and I just need someone to help.

I really don’t think sugar addiction is really true or exists. I think you just like sweets in general and you can’t control yourself. So stop being a freak and chew some gum when you have the craving for it.
maybe you have an under liying problem, but actually the more sugar you consume the more you crave. Like any addiction you have to take yourself out of the situation.
Try weening yourself off slowly but surely. Take what you normally would eat, and subtract one or two items. So if you like to have a bag of skittles, three cookies, and a piece of cake each day, try having all of that minus the piece of cake, for a whole week.
then the following week, only eat a bag of skittles, and two cookies. And so on and so forth.
I had to do this with coffee once. Now I only drink one cup of decaf a week.
Good luck!!
i am addicted to sugar too! You said it right, the key is you’ve got to stop eating sugar slowly, ween yourself off it gradually. Your body will adjust and even help you as you go along, because the less sugar you have, the less your body will crave it. Don’t deny yourself sugar completely. Have little pieces here and there. Next, try replacing with fruits to satisfy your sweet tooth. If you’ve got to have something sweet, might as well fill up on something healthy!
I have he same problem. What I started to do is buy low fat sweets like sweet flavor rice cakes. and 100 calorie packs. I also drink Alot of water after eating the snack to feel full. If im out of low fat items, I eat one or two sweets and savor them in the kitchen enjoying every bite. If I look at it and let it melt in my mouth, usually one sweet is enough to satisfy me
You can get addicted to anything. So you don’t want to go for a pretzel instead of a cake or cookie.
It’s rather simple. Instead of getting two cookies, get one. Or get a smaller piece of cake. When you feel the urge, chew a piece of sugarless gum or suck on ice. Don’t chew it because it’s bad for your teeth.
What you don’t want to do is go for the Splenda and stuff of that nature. It’s not exactly made from sugar. Sure, it may or may not have some form of glucouse to give it a sweet taste, but it also has some chemicals in it that make it more unhealthy than sugar itself.
And if that whole slowly cutting back thing isn’t working, if you’re at home and feel the urge, go brush your teeth. And rinse with mouthwash. You’re not supposed to eat or drink anything for a half hour after that (because of the taste and such) so by then, you might not want it as badly.
well, you could just start to become a vegitarian!!!!!!!!!!
or you could face the facts, there’s problably something to upset you that makes you gorge yourself!!!!!!!!!!
try this:
#1-try to delete any lover quarrels,or mean pepole from your life!!!
#2-try to accept your addiction and be happy!!!!!!
#3-try to help others more often to keep your mind occupied and free of sugar, your good karma will work with you!!!!!!
what triggers your eating habits are problably from stress,so relax my friend!!!!!!
Do you have any of these additional symptoms ?
Frequent urination
Excessive thirst
Extreme hunger
Unusual weight loss
Increased fatigue
Irritability
Blurry vision
if so get tested for diabetes, and get tested soon, untreated could lead to early demise …
try splenda (not real sugar . its a sweetner). and work on self control.
sorry no help here either…. this has always been a big problem for me as well..(junk food junkie) I’m 52 now and was told last year borderline diabetic and high blood pressure( all those BAGS of chips and stuff …too many to mention)……so take notice cause it only gets worst.
so………good luck and do try some thing now ,,and not latter……….. maybe we are all just doomed.
